Brattvær

picture missing

The Brattvær church on the west end of the island Smøla (north of Kristiansund) was built in 1917 and has 420 seats. Leaving the main road and driving three kilometres through a landscape devoid of houses, and when approaching the sea there is this big white house (probably the priest's residence), this church, and nothing else. Not even a graveyard, because the soil is to shallow. We should remember then, that when this church was built, most of the congregation arrived by sea.

Close to the church stands a memorial stone for those that perished at sea. There are ninety nine names and ninety nine dates from 1878 to 1992.
