Heddal

picture missing

The Heddal church is the largest of the Norwegian stave churches. In 1147 it was a small church and during the next 95 years it grew to it's present size. It's still in use. When this picture was taken parts of it had just gotten it's regular impregnation with tar, making it very dark and pleasantly smelling. Heddal is situated in Telemark west of Notodden. (Do not confuse with the Hedalen stave church in the south of Valdres.)
