The Byneset stone church – originally St. Michael's Church on Stein (Sancti Michaeli de Steini). Built by Archbishop Eystein probably 1170–80 and dedicated to the Archangel Michael. The steeple (built 1638) is as leaning as it looks. The church stands on (the farm) Stene on Byneset in the district of Trondheim (theme page), south-west of the town, overlooking the Orkdal fjord.

Inside the church, on the north wall, a 500 years old drawing depicting The Seven Deadly Sins with links to corresponding body parts. After the Protestant Reformation in 1537 the Catholic wall 'decorations' were whitewashed. In recent times work has been going on to restore these paintings.
