The Bjølstad chapel. The original church was built as a stave church probably before 1050. In 1531 (or maybe somewhat later) it was moved to the farm Bjølstad. When it became too small a new church was built from notched logs, reusing some materials from the stave church. It was moved and restored at the Heidal church 1956–64. In the background the Heidal notched log church, built in 1941 as a somewhat enlarged copy of an old church. The latter, named "Thabor", was consecrated in 1754 and was ignited by lightning in 1933. |
