The artist Kjell Nupen designed these fountains in Otterdalsparken (-park) at the Kristiansand harbor. The town Kristiansand lies in the far south of the country and has more than sixty thousand inhabitants.

On the Christiansholm Fortress in the center of Kristiansand, built 1672. The bronze cannons dates back to 1666–1788. The name of the fortress, and the town, is given by the town's founder, Christian IV (1577–1648), king of Denmark and Norway from 1588 (crowned 1596) till 1648. As the fourth King Christian he was also called Christian Quart. This has given the name to the Quart (Music) Festival that has been arranged in Kristiansand every summer since 1991 (except 2008).
