Rjukan in inner Telemark is a town with 3600 inhabitants (once the population was thrice that number.), long and narrow as Nature has dictated. On the south side of the valley (Vestfjorddalen) resides the Gausta Peak, altitude 1883 meters. This picture is taken five hundred meters above the valley floor, from the top of Krossobanen, a telpherage built in 1928 to enable the people of Rjukan to enjoy the sun during the winter months.
