The district Rauma

Entering the administrative district of Rauma on the road Valldal–Trollstigen–Romsdal (Åndalsnes). The district Rauma is characterized by high and jagged mountains. The mountains shown are Bispen ("The Bishop") (right) and Kongen ("The King"). This road is closed during the winter season. Poles like the one seen below the sign are useful when the snow is cleared away in spring.

Trollstigen, a couple of kilometers ahead, is the part of the road climbing down to the valley through 9 (11) hairpin bends. It was opened in 1936 and has since then scared many tourists (with acrophobia). When I took the above picture Trollstigen was in deep shadows, in October there are lots of them in deep valleys among high mountains. Therefore the picture below is the only one I have from Trollstigen. (However, see next picture)
