The Borgund stave church in Lærdal was probably built some years after 1180-81, the winter the timber was cut down according to dendrochronological data. It is very special and it is also one of the best preserved stave churches.

To the right the old and very small Borgund stave church and to the left the Borgund church built 1868 and still used. These churches stand in Lærdal 30 km from the fjord. Please note that there in another Borgund church, now absorbed by Ålesund, built from stone about 1130.
