Timber and salmon fishing
Namsos, late evening view from Bjørumsklumpen, a 115 metres 'mountain' right in the town centre, and with an asphalted road to the top of it. Near the picture centre (up left) the Namsos church (1960) and further up in the same direction a modern out of style apartment building (see closeup below). The name of the town means the "mouth of (the river) Namsen". Namsen runs down the valley Namdalen and is one of the best salmon rivers in the country. There are large spruce forests up-country and earlier the river was used for floating lumber. Indeed, Namsos was founded on timber industry, and it still has one of the largest sawmills in Scandinavia. There are about 14 thousand inhabitants in the town proper.

The mouth of the river Namsen and the sawmill, as seen from Bjørumsklumpen (of which you see the shadow) before sunset. And the 'new' bridge, the old Namsen bridge is a little further upstream.

In the large forests inland lives the (Eurasian) elk. This is a statue in the city of a male elk; the artist is Skule Waksvik.
