I never learned to find edible mushrooms and I detest being poisoned, so I leave picking mushrooms to those that know what they're doing. Okay, canterelle are the easy ones.

The mushroom Scarlet (Elf) Cup (Sarcoscypha austriaca) grows in fallen and rotting branches and the fruit bodies emerge very early in spring. The cups are somewhat translucent so that sunlight makes the whitish underside look red. They are claimed to be edible, but I haven't found any reason to eat them.

Fly Agaric or Fly Amanita (Amanita muscaria) is toxic, but lethal poisoning is very rare. The name indicates that it has been used as an insecticide. It contain a hallucinogen and some might want to try it out. In some cultures it is eaten after proper heat treatment. But the main use is for decoration, rarely the real thing, though.

Mushrooms on trees on trees is common, but they are a varied bunch. There might even be edible ones, but I never found any that looked tempting. However, I am very tempted to leave the subject.
