Svinvika – the arboretum at Todalsfjorden, southeast of Kristiansund. Halvor Svinvik (1894–1976) had this extreme interest for plants and beginning about 1943, he obtained by mail seeds from all over the world and made a part of the farm into an arboretum with exotic conifers, rhododendron, bamboo and other species. Please note that the north side of the inner part of a fjord has a surprisingly warm summer climate. In 1950 he married Anne who shared his interest.

This is where Halvor Svinvik and his wife lived. In 1971 they donated the farm and arboretum to the university in Trondheim and for many years it was a subsidiary to the Ringve arboretum in Trondheim, where the climate is harsher. Since 2010 Nordmøre museum has run the arboretum, café and visitor service.

On the other side of the Todal Fjord the peaks may reach thirteen hundred metres or more and the spring hasn't reached that high yet.
