The valley Norangs-dalen runs westwards between high mountains from Hellesylt (ferry to/from Geiranger) to Øye at Hjørund-fjorden.
Norangsdalen is quite narrow.

The old bridge had a direct hit. The road through the valley is closed in winter.

To the left – hiding among the rocks – the stone huts of the old Stavbergsetra summer dairies.

The shallow lake Lygnstøl-vatnet came into being in 1908. Then a landslide filled the bottom of the valley most distant from the camera and this dam proved to be permanent. A summer dairy (that's what '-støl' means) was completely submerged. Closest to the camera we see the old road disappear in the lake. In the background the mountain Slogen (1564 m), well-known among mountaineers.

This part of the old road was evidently paved and continues now into the lake.

When the light is favourable, the stone fundaments of a summer dairy can be seen. Visiting the place in 1954, some logs from the buildings were still visible. This seems to be a stone fence.

View eastwards from Øye towards Norangsdalen and Hotel Union. This hotel was built in the times of the English Lords – and it has kept the old style. It is discernible in the shadows to the left.

Slogen, in the centre of the picture, seen from the other side of the fjord – Hjørundfjorden. This is Sæbø featuring a large camping site, used by sport fishers.
