Welcome to Nordland. Cattle on the road is not normal except in places with little traffic. This is on the island Tjøtta between Brønnøysunf and Sandnessjøen. About a kilometre further on is an international cemetery of war from World War II.
Three of the Seven Sisters on the island Alsta, northwest of Mosjøen. The town Sandnessjøen and the Helgeland bridge to the mainland is situated further north on the island, and near its south end we find the Alstahaug church together with the Petter Dass museum.
The waterfall Laksfors (Salmon Waterfall) in the river Vefsna. It's springtime and snow melting in the mountains and the river runs high. On the right side of the waterfall the salmon staircase is totally engulfed.

At Saltstraumen, the world's strongest tidal current. Through this narrow passage near Bodø the tidal water rushes into and out of the Skjerstad fjord, changing direction four times during a day and a night. In the inner end of the fjord peak tides are delayed by two hours and the average difference between high and low tide is 1.06 meters whereas outside the obstruction it is 1.74 meters. Spring tide and the effect of strong winds may increase these figures considerably, and they say that the difference between water levels on both sides of the obstruction may sometimes reach one meter. Down in the current exists a rich life and sport fishing and diving here is popular. And potentially dangerous. The mountains in the background are called Børvasstindan, the highest one – Store Åseltind, second from the left – reaches 1177 meters.

Just south of the tunnel that runs under a branch of the glacier Svartisen to Glomfjord, at the inner end of Nordfjorden. This looks like discarded transformers from a power plant. Behind some peaks adjacent to the glacier Svartisen.

At Holand, near the outer end of Nordfjorden. It's early summer and this rest area has been tidied up for the tourists. On the other side of the fjord, more peaks in front of the Svartisen glacier.

Hotel Gildetun on the Kvænangen mountain pass, about 140 km west of Alta. The altitude is only about four hundred metres, but at this latitude the winter weather may be tough. The red sticks has just been collected. Before winter comes they'll be placed along the edge of the road to guide the snow plough.

On the way back to Alta from the Alta Hydroelectric Power Station and the dam across the canyon. The building of the latter was planned and carried out around 1980. This was one of the most controversial projects in this country. The dam would interfere with the Sami's reindeer movements and with the wild salmon coming up the river to spawn, and there were demonstrations with activist chaining themselves together.
